2020 GDLN Distance Learning
Seminar Series
The 6th Video Conference of the
Series, "4th Industrial Revolution and Education Reform"
was held on June 25th (Thu) 16:00 ~ 17:30 (Seoul Time)
Speaker- Ju-ho Lee, Professor, KDI School of Public Policy and Management
With the advent of the 4th
Industrial Revolution we are witnessing unprecedented technological
advancements, changing the way we conduct our daily lives. Whereas
technologies once offered exciting new opportunities for delivering services
to the public, it has now become a necessity and even an
expected facet of government operations and public governance. As
these innovations continue to become an integral part of our lives,
governments and related agencies need to understand how to redefine
and identify their roles within this changing landscape.
It is against this
background that we need to address how public policies must change to
create a legal and regulatory framework that still manages to
take advantage of the technological milestones we are experiencing,
while also protecting societies from the disruptive nature these
innovations can also introduce. KDI School's GDLN Blended Learning
Program for 2020 will focus on Public Sector Innovations for
Sustainable Development. We initiated our GDLN community to
join us for a timely discussion on how Korea has been applying and
adjusting to the rapid changes in technology. Topics covered
will include an overview of Korea's science and innovation
policies, the applications of ICT within the public sector, and
the impact of disruptive technologies and other innovations on
governments, businesses and citizens.
Learning Objective - The lecture will introduce a general overview of Korea's human capital development, including the characteristics of Korea's explosive expansion in its education sector. Then, the lecture will discuss the role of Edtech in the time of COVID-19, and introduce the "High-Touch, High-Tech" (HTHT) education initiative, which is one of the most promising education models in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution. The aim is to provide some food for thought and insight on the applications for your country's education policy measures.
